West End

Marble plaque
bearing bust of Duchess Sybil

Beneath the rose window and between the two lower windows is a marble plaque with a raised bust of Sybil sculpted by Princess Louise, a close friend and daughter of Queen Victoria.

Below the plaque and in between two smaller coloured windows, is a marble plaque with the following inscription:

IN CARAM MEMORIAM
SYBILLÆ
DUCHESSÆ DE ST ALBANS
LOUISE SCULPSIT
MDCCCLXXIII

Above the bust of Sybil is an oak plaque with a picture of Jesus with children and bearing the following inscription:

In loving memory of Robert E. Lewin (1882-1958) and his wife
Beatrice M. Lewin (1886-1962) presented by their children and grandchildren.

This gentleman was the last person to hold the position of joint Churchwarden for both Emmanuel Church and St Mark’s in Bestwood Village.

East End

There is a twenty-five panelled arcading around the base of the chancel wall. On the second from the right is a plaque with the following inscription:

TO THE
GLORY OF GOD
AND
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
WILLIAM AMELIUS
AUBREY DE VERE
10TH DUKE OF ST ALBANS
BORN APRIL 15TH 1840
DIED MAY 10TH 1898
THIS ARCADING
IS DEDICATED BY HIS
WIFE AND CHILDREN

The arcading is in blocks of five, the arched panels being divided by dark marble columns with decorated capitals. Between the panels is a carved trefoil. Each panel is painted dark green with a central symbol in gold, a dark red border and gold bead. Most of the panels have water damage at the base, three being badly damaged and impossible to record.
