War Memorial

There is no war memorial. Cromwell is a ‘thankful village’; all those who went from the village to serve in the First World War returned safely. Nationally there are 52 ‘thankful villages’, four of which are in Nottinghamshire (Cromwell, Maplebeck, Wigsley and Wysall).

In Cromwell everyone who served in World War II returned. The only person to be killed by enemy action was a civilian who was the victim of an air-raid on Newark.
