Chancel

1.

Christ St Peter

The east window is dedicated to Isabella Maltby, wife of the Rev Canon Brough Maltby, who died in 1892. It shows Christ flanked by St Paul on the right and St Peter on the left.

An inscription in the bottom right reads:

+ A.M.D.G. in priam memoriam
Isabella Maltby quae obdonuiit
[ ...]

The last line is obscured by the reredos.

2.The south window of the chancel commemorates Ann Newton (died 1862). The inscription reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF ANN NEWTON WHO DIED MAY 20 1862

Lady Chapel

Detail

The east window of the Lady Chapel depicts an angel on the left and a female saint on the right.

4.The window in the south wall of the Lady Chapel is dedicated to Charles Harrison who was killed in the First World War:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD & IN LOVING MEMORY OF CHARLES EDGAR HARRISON
LANCE SERGEANT IN THE 8TH SHERWOOD FORESTERS WHO WAS
KILLED IN ACTION NEAR VERMELLES, FRANCE ON OCT 5TH 1915 AGED 36 YEARS

South Aisle

Detail

The easternmost window in the south aisle is in memory of William Parker and his wife, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth Ann Chamberlain Brockton.

The inscription at the bottom of the lefthand light reads:

To the Glory of God & in memory of William Parker surgeon
of Newark who died Feb 7 1843 aged 75 also of Elizabeth
his wife who died July 20 1844 aged 82

The inscription at the bottom of the righthand light reads:

To the glory of God & in memory of Elizabeth Ann
Chamberlain only daughter of William & Elizabeth
Brockton who died Sep 13 1865 aged 24 years.

 

6.The westernmost window in the south wall shows two images of Christ and a brass plaque nearby reads:

The above Window is dedicated to the Glory of God
and in loving memory of
Elizabeth Cooper, who died May 23rd 1897,
and of Ann Cooper, who died Feby 18th 1908.

7.The west window of the south aisle is in memory of Elizabeth Brockton (died 1888) and here son, William (died 1915):

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF
ELIZABETH BROCKTON OBIIT APRIL 20TH 1888 AET 74 & HER
SON, WILLIAM RIPPON BROCKTON OBIIT SEPT 17TH 1915 AET 77.

North Aisle

9.

David and Goliath

The west window of the north aisle has three lights, only two of which contain stained glass.

The lefthand light depicts David and Goliath and is dedicated to George Brockton who was killed in the First World War:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING
MEMORY OF GEORGE BROCKTON, PRIVATE
QUEEN’S ROYAL WEST SURREY REGIMENT
SECOND SON OF GEORGE AND LUCY BROCKTON
REPORTED MISSING AUG 10TH 1917
AFTERWARDS PRESUMED KILLED ON THAT
DATE AT GLENCORSE WOOD FRANCE AGED 20YRS.

The middle light shows Christ and commemorates William and Elizabeth Brockton:

+ TO THE GLORY OF GOD & IN MEMORY
OF WILLIAM RIPPON BROCKTON WHO
DIED AP 19TH 1869 & OF ELIZABETH HIS
WIFE WHO DIED AP 10TH 1888 +
THIS WINDOW IS DEDICATED BY THEIR SON GEORGE.

The righthand light is of plain glass.

Detail

A window of two panels from the studio of Burlison and Grylls.

The left panel depicts St Anthony of Padua and the right panel depicts the Christ Child.

The inscription reads:

Erected by Alice Maud Buck in memory of her husband
William Buck who died 7th March 1925 aged 59 years

Documentary evidence confirms the studio and places the date at late 1934 or early 1935.
