Farnsfield St Michael

Organ

The present organ was built by James J. Binns of Bramley Organ Works, Leeds. It was the gift of the Misses Wilkins.

A fine brass plate with colour to the right of the organ reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD,
AND IN MEMORY OF SARAH, WIFE OF
THE REV. HENRY ROBERT WILKINS, B.A.
VICAR OF FARNSFIELD, 1849 - 1874,
THIS ORGAN WAS GIVEN BY HER DAUGHTERS
GERTRUDE AND ALICE WILLETT WILKINS,
AND THE ORGAN CHAMBER WAS ERECTED
BY PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS
THESE GIFTS WERE DEDICATED BY
THE RIGHT REVEREND EDWYN HOSKYNS. D.D.
BISHOP OF SOUTHWELL ON OCTOBER 3RD 1905

The organ is small, workmanlike, typical of the period and very suitable for accompanying worship in this sort of Church.

The electric blower was given by Marion Murdoch.

It has two manuals (keyboards).

Philip Wood, organ builders of Huddersfield, confirm that it is unique as probably unaltered apart from the introduction of an electric blower. The original hand pump is still present, indicating a lack of electricity in the village in 1905.

The organ is presently serviced by Henry Groves and Son, Church Organ Builders, of Nottingham.

Tracker (mechanical) action.
