There is a brass plaque on the south wall of the nave. Below the badge of the Royal Field Artillery it has black lettering with rubricated letters for capitals and reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING
MEMORY OF
EDWIN JOHN NICHOLSON, R.F.A.
WHO DIED A PRISONER OF WAR
AT D’ERCY MORTIERS, FRANCE
SEP. 18TH 1918, AGED 34 YEARS.
“DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI”

The Latin in the last line can be translated:

It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country
