The churchyard was approximately rectangular with no burials. There were paths on the south and east sides, a main entrance gateway on the south, opening onto Northgate, and a smaller gate to the east opening into the adjacent school yard. There were a few small trees, shrubs, and grass and a lamp post at the south-east corner.

The boundary wall on the south side was of rock-faced ashlar stone to match the church. The main gates on this side were double and of cast iron. The wall continued on the north and south sides but towards the south-east end part of the boundary was formed by adjacent buildings. There was shrub and tree planting forming part of the boundary on the south side.
