Bells

The bell has gone. It previously hung on the exterior of the church from a pinnacle on the south wall above the vicar’s vestry, and was rung from the vestry. The effect from the outside is a little like a crane attached to a warehouse but without the gantry. The effect, surprisingly, is pleasing. Repairs were needed, and the cost was said to be prohibitive.

The former bell was hung for chiming and was cast by Taylors of Loughborough and dated 1931. As well as the date the waist also bore the inscription: ‘COMPELLE INTRARE UT IMPLEATUR DOMUS MEA E.D.’
