Tower

West Window

The west window was restored in 1866. It cost £25 to restore and £75 to fill with stained glass. It was known as the Mary window because Mary, the vicar’s wife, and a number of other ladies of the same name organised fundraising for it. Money was taken from anyone named Mary, or in memory of a Mary or lady of an associated name. The window also contained images of biblical Marys. The subjects were: (1) the gifts of the Wise Men, (2) the presentation in the Temple, (3) the descent into Egypt, (4) The questioning of the Doctors, (5) the marriage at Canaan, (6) the whole Church, Christ’s family, (7) the entombment, and in the centre (8) the exorcism of St Mary Magdalene. It was installed by Mr Preedy of York Place.
