Harby with Swinethorpe All SaintsMonuments and Memorials
There is a brass plaque on the south wall of the nave. Below the badge of the Royal Field Artillery it has black lettering with rubricated letters for capitals and reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING
MEMORY OF
EDWIN JOHN NICHOLSON, R.F.A.
WHO DIED A PRISONER OF WAR
AT D’ERCY MORTIERS, FRANCE
SEP. 18TH 1918, AGED 34 YEARS.
“DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI” |
The Latin in the last line can be translated:
It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country
