War Memorial

There are a number of memorials in the church relating to the two World Wars.

The principal First World War memorial is on the south wall of the church. It is of white marble with grey marble pillars. It reads:

WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES
FOR KING AND COUNTRY
IN THE GREAT WAR

A wooden cross is located to the east end of the church, south of the altar. It is inscribed:

On the south side of the church is a metal strip which reads:

To the right of the above mentioned strip is another which reads :

On the north side of the church is a gothic style marble war memorial tablet which records the death, in 1918, of W. F. Evelyn Denison. It takes the form of a white marble cameo on a grey relief portrait (head and shoulders of soldier in uniform wearing badges of Sherwood Foresters) in panel flanked by square columns with entablature and wreathed apron signed A Drury RA. The iscription is:

LIEUT 15TH SHERWOOD FORESTERS.
BORN DEC 22ND 1878.
DIED AT AMIENS IN FRANCE
MARCH 26TH 1918

RIGHT DEAR IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD
IS THE DEATH OF HIS SAINTS

This is enclosed in metal wreath with the inscription:

PRO REGE
ET
PATRIA MORI

Though not strictly a War Memorial, there is a brass plaque which relates to those who served at RAF Ossington during the Second World War. This is also on the south side of the church. It reads:

Village War Memorial

In addition to the above memorials in the church there is also a war memorial in Ossington village at the corner of Main Street and the road to Moorhouse. It was put up about 1920 and takes the form of a square chest with recessed inscribed panels on three sides commemorating all those from the parish who served in the armed forces. Above there is a gabled shrine with a cusped opening containing a crucifix. The inscriptions are as follows:
