Rempstone All SaintsStonework
The church was built using stonework recycled from St Peter
in the Rushes and an
old chapel in the village. Since the old church
was larger than the new one, it would be reasonable to conclude that there
was sufficient stonework available for building the new church from St Peter
and the old chapel.
Lias, a fine grained grey limestone from the Lower Jurassic geological period,
forms the main block-work of the new church. The quoins used for the cornerstones
of the building are sandstone possibly from Kingsmill, Castle Donnington. These
stones have been neatly dressed.
