On the south wall of the chancel is a wooden plaque, ornately carved and gilded, with a double scroll edge design picked out in gold leaf and green colouring. It commemorates the ministry of the Reverend John Standish.
LET US GIVE THANKS TO GOD
FOR JOHN STANDISH, WHO FOR THIRTY THREE
YEARS WAS A TRUE PASTOR OF SOULS IN THIS
VILLAGE. IN THE LOVE OF ALL SIMPLE THING HE
FOLLOWED THE SIMPLICITY OF HIS MASTER: IN THE
BEAUTY OF THE WORLD HE FOUND THE FOOTPRINTS
OF GOD: IN THE HEARTS OF HIS PEOPLE HE FOUND
CHRIST PRESENT AMONG MEN: IN THIS VILLAGE
HE FOUND THE CITY OF GOD, AND IN THIS CHURCH
THE TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD. HE WHO TAUGHT
US HERE WAS EVER READY TO LEARN FROM US,
HE WHO WAS OUR PASTOR WAS THE SERVANT OF
US ALL. FROM HIS MINISTRY HE PASSED TO THE
HIGHER MINISTERIES BEYOND OUR SIGHT ON JUNE
30TH 1918 IN THE SEVENTIETH YEAR OF HIS AGE. |
On the south wall of the nave is a small brass tablet recording a philanthropic donation [1890s].
