The bell was cast from the metal of an old bell.
That was dated 1775, it measured 17⅞" and carried the inscription:
REV. PHILLIP GURDEN, ASSINGTON HALL
The origins of that bell are unknown, though Assington Hall is known to have
been Suffolk. (It burnt down in 1957).
