Chancel

Detail

On the north wall of the chancel is a window commissioned by the 3rd Earl Manvers to commemorate his parents Charles Herbert, 2nd Earl Manvers, and his wife Mary Letitia. It was installed in 1862.

The inscription reads:

To the Glory of God and in memory

 

of Charles Herbert 2nd Earl Manvers

 

who died 27th of October 1860 aged 82

and of Mary Letitia his wife

 

who died 7th of September 1860

 

aged 76 this window has been

placed by their son Sidney

The east window dates from c.1913 and is credited to Powell and Sons. It is in memory of the Revd Henry Seymour and his three daughters, Emily, Emmeline and Lilian.

The inscription reads:

In thankfulness to GOD for all those who have
departed this life in His Faith and Fear and
in loving memory of the Rev Henry Seymour
for 41 years Rector of this Parish from 1864
to 1905 born 1825 died 1911 and of

 

His three daughters Emily Gertrude born 1882
died 1912 Emmeline St Maur Viscountess
Torrington born 1860 died 1912 and Lilian

The glass in these windows is said to be by Henry Gyles of York and probably dates from c.1666. The heads of the windows show the arms of Pierrepont.

South Aisle

In the south aisle there is a window in memory of the wife of the Revd William Seymour, a former rector, who died in 1889 and her son who died in Madeira in 1891. The first light depicts St Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary; the middle light shows Eunice, the mother of Timothy, with her son; the light on the right portrays Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, with her son. The window is by Shrigley & Hunt of Lancaster with figures by Edward Jewitt and angels in the tracery by Carl Almquist. It was unveiled on 7 May 1895.

The inscription reads:

To the glory of God & in memory of Susannah Biscoe wife of the Rev. Henry Seymour Rector of this Parish who died May 8th 1889 also of their son the Rev. Edwd Adolphus Willm Seymour who died at Madeira Feb. 28th 1891

Tower

The lancet window in the west wall of the tower has fine stained glass dedicated to St Edmund although the view of this is restricted by the modern kitchen.

It commemorates William Henry Hacking, the brother of the Revd Egbut Hacking (rector from 1905 to 1912), and was installed in 1910.

The inscription reads:

To the Glory of God and in memory of William Henry
Hacking erected by the Rector of this parish 1910

Nave

10.

The window contains clear and pale yellow quarries in a geometrical design.

11-12.

The windows contain clear glass.
