Clock mechanism

The clock is by J.B. Joyce & Co. of Whitchurch, Shropshire. Although undated it was installed after 1918 as a memorial to the fallen of World War I.

The mechanism is a typical turret clock with both going and striking trains and is still wound by hand.

The timbers that support the clock mechanism are covered in pencil inscriptions, one of which is very poignant and unusual reading:
