LIKE THOSE SHE BLOOM’D, AND AH! LIKE THOSE SHE FELL.
IN CIRCLING WREATHS LET THE PALE IVY GROW,
AND DISTANT YEWS A SABLE SHADE BESTOW ;
TILL THAT BRIGHT MORN SHALL WAKE THE BEAUTEOUS CLAY,
TO BLOOM AND SPARKLE IN ETERNAL DAY. |
South Aisle
On the south wall of the south aisle, next to the south door, is a monument to Samuel Beale who died in 1820.
Sacred to the Memory of
SAMUEL, the only Son of the late
WILLIAM BEALE of this place Gent.
Who died January 19th 1820,
Aged 15,
An opening bud, a flower enfolder,
‘Scap’d from the early frosts and gales of Spring,
Its latent odours, tints, and beauties moulded,
By HIM who scents the rose, and paints the insect’s wing;
But, ere full blown, th’ expanding blossom faded,
To dust it chang’d, dust that proclaims to thee,
‘Descendant of a race by sin degraded’;
“That every man is altogether vanity.” |
