Stokeham St Peter

Bells

Bell turret Bell

There are two openings in the western stone turret, but only one bell. The present bell is blank, hung for swing-chiming in the turret, and is a medieval bell dating from c.1325 by an unknown founder. The bell retains a fine set of cable-moulded canons and has a spherical crown. It has a diameter of 20" and weighs 1.5 cwt.

The Inventory of Church Goods of 1552 lists two bells, but by 1764 there was only a single bell.

A new rope was fixed to the church bell so that the parish could participate in the millennium bell-ringing.
