Monuments and Memorials

On the north wall of the chancel is a mural monument to George Brown who died in 1784. The inscription reads:

To the memory of
GEORGE BROWN Esqr
Whose Body lies interr’d
near this place.
He died at Ordsall
in the County of Nottingham
the 13th day of August 1784
Aged seventy two Years.

His only Surviving Sister Ann
erected this Monument,
as a mark of her affection
for so dear a Brother.

In memory of the above named Ann Brown
late of Ordsall, who died the
26th day of June 1796,
aged 78 Years.

There are also several floor slabs in the chancel.

Set into the floor immediately in front of the altar is a floor slab to Originall Brown. The damaged inscription states:

[Her]e Lieth the Body
[of O]riginall Brown who
[depar]ted this Life : July the
[...]19 in 36 Year of his Age.

[...]s of A Joy full Resurrection
[...] a Loving Husband
[...]nder Father.

[...]er behold, and by these
[...] you’ll see me hid in Dust
my Babes nere by me.

An entry in the parish registers records:

'Originall Brown Gent was Buried July ye 27th do 1719 Aged 36'

Set into the floor next to the south wall and the piscina is a floor stone to Elizabeth, wife of John Byron, who died in 1720:

A floor slab to their son, Charles Byron (1718-1735), reads:

HERE Lieth the Body of
CHARLES the Son of JOHN
and ELIZABETH BYRON who
Departed this Life September
the 30th In the Year of our LORD
1735
In the 17th Year of his AGE

A floor slab under the chancel screen is to John Byron who died in 1721:

[… Liet]h the [Bo]dy of
Iohn Byron Gen[t] who
Departed this L[ife] ye 16th day
of February in the [ye]are of our
LORD 1721 in the [6]7th Yeare
of his Age

he was the 2th Iohn […]ch
Generarion of that [fa]mily that
Hase been Buried [i]n this Plase

An entry in the parish registers records:

'John Byron Gent was buried February the 19th 1721 : in ye 67th yeare of his age'

There are other floor slabs in the chancel currently obscured by carpets and wooden flooring, for example:

Year of our LORD 1718
In the 8th Year of his Age.

The parish registers suggest that this floor slab is to 'Originall the Sonn of Originall Brown and Elizabeth his Wife [who] was buried June the 3th 1718.' He had been baptised on 10 April 1710.
