Stokeham St Peter

War Memorial

The west window was unblocked and restored in 1930 to commemorate the three men of the parish who died in the First World War.

A brass plaque beneath the window reads:

DEDICATED
TO
THE GLORY OF GOD
AND
IN MEMORY OF
ALFRED GEORGE SIMPSON
WILLIAM STEVENSON
HAROLD RICHARDSON
OF STOKEHAM
WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 18
THIS WINDOW WAS RESTORED BY
PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS.
MAY 1930
“THY WILL BE DONE”

A metal strip on a kerb stone of the family grave in the churchyard commemorates William Stevenson. The inscription reads:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF WILLIAM STEVENSON
WHO DIED OF WOUNDS IN THE GREAT WAR APRIL 29TH 1917
