Clock

There is no clock at the church.

However, there are two entries in the churchwardens' accounts mentioning a clock at the church in the early 18th century. In 1705 James Surgery was paid 5s 'for loocking to the Clock' and in 1711 6d was paid 'For oyle for the Clock.'

Raised lozenge
for clock dial
Stone weight for
clock mechanism

The middle stage of the west face of the tower contains a raised lozenge which formerly contained a clock dial. Internally the hole for the hand drive is still evident along with a single stone weight formerly for the clock mechanism.

The style resembles the extant clock dials elsewhere dated to the 17th century (e.g. Esher, Surrey and Harmston, Lincolnshire) and is probably from the 1632 building campaign).
