Chancel

1Set high on chancel north wall above arch into Becket Chapel a tablet with achievement, pediment, scrolled flanking pilasters, apron and brackets. The inscription is badly worn but reads:

Here lieth Interred [the body of]
EVELYN CHADWICK ESQr
[son of] of George Chadwick Esqr of Nottingham
and Elizabeth Daughter of Thos: Mansfield Esqr
of West Leek in the County of Nottingham
On ye breaking out of ye Rebellion in ye Year 1745
He went into ye Army where he chose the
Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in a Regiment of the
Dragoons in which … he died July 28th 1754
in the 42nd Year of his Age.

2Hatchment of a bachelor, quarterly 1 and 4 argent, on a chevron sable between three fleur de lys of the same, three rams’ heads of the first; 2 and 3 argent, on a band sable between two unicorn heads of the same, three lozenges of the first. Ramsden quartering Smyth of Heath Hall, Yorks, 1753.

3Hatchment of a widower, argent, on a chevron sable, between three fleur de lys of the same, three rams’ heads of the first, impaling sable, on a chief argent above six martlets of the same (three stags’ heads gules), Ramsden impaling Appleby of Wooton, Lincs, 1783.

On the north wall of the chancel, near the nave, are three rectangular metal tablets, smallest at the top:

Near this CHURCH is placed to the memory of
JANIE BRUCE, wife of the RECTOR, a + by
WILLIAM, ARCHBISHOP of YORK, 1880.

There is a cross in the churchyard near to the south chancel door, in other words just outside from the location of this memorial.
