Stonework

The whole church is constructed of stone. The exterior walls are in rock-faced ashlar with smooth ashlar stone on the quoins and opening dressings. The stone hoods over the north door, south door and over the east windows all end in a carved foliage pattern. The newspaper article describing the consecration of the church describes the construction as ‘Bulwell coursed rubble, with Wesson stone dressings’. It adds that internally the church is lined with plastered brick, and the arcades are of Ancaster stone.
