A report by the Parliamentary Commissioners in 1650 stated "Alsoe the Rectory or Parsonage  of Hicklinge which is worth one hundred and three score pounds  per annum (sequestered from Doctor Bardsey) to the State's use. John Rocket Clerk the present Incumbent who hath the cure of soulse and diligentlie supplies the cure in his owne person beinge a "preachinge Minister"

He was appointed rector there on 31 May 1826.
