Monuments and Memorials

Several of the fixtures and fittings in St Saviour’s are memorials to past parishioners donated by their relatives and friends. They are recorded under other sections of this entry.

There are just two memorials to individuals.

On the north wall of nave is an ornate white marble tablet on a dark background with a black inscription that reads:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
GEORGE BLACKBURN ESQ. J.P.
ALDERMAN OF THIS CITY AND FOR FOURTEEN
YEARS CHURCHWARDEN OF THIS PARISH
WHO DIED DECR 11TH 1900, IN HIS 75TH YEAR.
ALSO
BENJAMIN FIELDING BLACKBURN,
SECOND SON OF THE ABOVE
WHO DIED MAY 6TH 1907 IN HIS 52ND YEAR.
ALSO
ALFRED JAMES BLACKBURN
THIRD SON THE ABOVE
WHO DIED JULY 25TH 1894 IN HIS 37TH YEAR.

THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY ESTHER, DAUGHTER OF
THE ABOVE GEORGE BLACKBURN.

On the south wall of the nave is a white marble tablet on a dark wood board. The black lettering reads:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
MRS ANNE BILLYEALD
BORN APRIL 11TH 1834, DIED APRIL 24TH 1902.
FOR MANY YEARS A REGULAR WORSHIPPER AT ST. SAVIOUR’S
CHURCH AND AN ACTIVE WORKER IN THE PARISH.
THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY SEVERAL FRIENDS IN
RECOGNITION OF HER UNSELFISH AND CONSISTENT
CHRISTIAN LIFE.
