Nottingham St Saviour

Organ

The organ is located under an arch behind the choir stalls on the north side of the chancel. It is of stained wood with panels below a narrow moulded frieze decorated with carved quatrefoils, over the organ twenty organ pipes fill the arch. A brass plate on the frieze has the maker’s name Forster & Andrews of Hull. The cost in 1866, the date of its installation, was £550.

A full technical specification for the organ is available from the National Pipe Organ Register website.

In 1896 a brick chamber was built behind the organ to house an electric blower. The organ is not regularly used, the music for services being provided by drums, electronic keyboards and other instruments stored in the chancel.

The organ was rebuilt and enlarged in 1905 at a cost of nearly £300. Mrs Carnegie funded the work.
