A photograph from 1948 clearly shows a prominent monument, probably of stone, positioned to the right (east) of the high altar on the wall defining the beginning of the Sanctuary. It is likely to have been in memory of Leonard Curtis Cresswell who died in action in the Balkans in October 1916, aged 21 years.
