Monuments and Memorials

Two memorial tablets are secured to the walls of the church.

There is a tablet in memory of George Green. It is located near the lectern and reads:

IN COMMORATION
OF THE BICENTENARY
OF THE BIRTH OF
GEORGE GREEN
MILLER MATHEMATICIAN
AND PHYSICIST
1793 - 1841

A second tablet remembers William Kinder of Sneinton. It has an heraldic shield above the Latin inscription:

HIC IACET W K DEBITAE OBSERVATIAE
ET PIETATIS ERGO POSVIT PH K

A nearby plaque informs us that William Kinder’s son, Phillip born 1592, erected it. Phillip also wrote ‘A Historie of Darbyshire’. The tablet was originally in the medieval church.
