List of Incumbents

Vicars

From the early 12th century to the Dissolution of the Monasteries the benefice remained in the hands of the Prior and Monks of Lenton, but 'upon the dissolution of the monastery the advowson was seized, and is yet retained by the Crown'. Godfrey (1884) has compiled a list of known vicars:

1663 - 1671 The churchwardens' presentment bills regularly report that there is no minister, parson or vicar. However, from c.1660 to 1803 vicars of neighbouring Radford appear to have been allowed to hold the benefice of Lenton 'in commendam.'
1673 - 1688 John Francis (curate of Lenton with Bramcote)
c.1693 - 1731 William Rudsby (fully instituted into the vicarage of Radford and was merely permitted to hold this benefice in commendam, and was never, strictly speaking, vicar of Lenton, though he enjoyed all the rights and privileges as such for many years until his death on 25 July, 1731)
1731 - 1731 John Swaile (instituted to benefice of Radford in August 1731 and presumably held Lenton in commendam until his death in December 1731)
1732 - 1782 George Wayte (presented by the Crown to the vicarage of Radford in 1732, holding the vicarage of Lenton in commendam, never being fully instituted into that benefice, until his death in 1782)
1782 - 1803 William Pickering (presented to the vicarage of Radford on the death of George Wayte, and he also held that of Lenton in commendam for nearly 20 years)
1803 - 1840 Edward Creswell (presented by the Crown to the vicarages of Lenton and Radford, and was duly instituted into both benefices, May the 3rd, 1803, being the first actual Vicar of Lenton for upwards of a century, the living having been held in commendam throughout that period, as already stated. He died April the 11th, 1840, and was buried at Radford, where there is a mural monument to his memory)
1840 - 1886 George Browne (was curate-in-charge - instituted in July 1840. Died November 1886)

From 1842, the date of the opening of Holy Trinity Church, St Anthony’s was designated a chapel of ease to Holy Trinity and was serviced by the clergy of Holy Trinity church, as it is today. Some of the curates appear in the documentary record:
