Stone effigyFull length figure of a man with a beard, wearing a lawyer’s coiff and gown. Two small angels support the head, a dog the feet. Attributed to be Robert de Nottingham, Remembrancer of the Exchequer, 1322, Baron of Court, 1327. (Throsby, in the 1790s, read the date as 1126, but admitted he “could not answer for accuracy”.) Inscription on the base is indistinct, possibly reading: ... LE . SOTERA DEV + DESALME MCI ...

Born in this parish on the 21st of March 1659. Baptised in this Church on St. George’s Day of that year. Emigrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States of America in 1684 to join William Penn. There he died on the 8th January 1708 having founded a family now scattered throughout the United States of America

(1) Quarterly: 1 and 4, Sherbroooke : 2 and 3 argent, on a chevron embattled counterembattled azure between 3 roses gules, stalked and leaved vert, 3 fleurs-de-lis argent (Coape).

(2) Quarterly, as in (1), Sherbrooke and Coape; impaling gules, a Chevron argent between 3 lions’ heads erased erminois, crowned argent (Pyndar).

CRESTS: (1) Sherbrooke, as in no. 1; a lion’s head erased erminois, crowned argent (Pyndar).
