Stonework

A single stone sample from the south aisle clerestory window cill was reported to be typical of the Lower Jurassic, Argillaceous Lias Limestone used for most of the fabric of the church, the mineralogy and texture being consistent with a source in the Lower Magnesian Limestone Permain of Nottinghamshire. It is likely that the present sample came from the Bulwell quarries. The east and west elevations are of Lias limestone with sandstone dressings to the buttress and window surrounds.
